If you were badly sunburned as a child you are twice as likely to develop malignant melanoma in adulthood.
It is important that you check your skin regularly once a month and report any changes to your doctor.

If you have a fair or red-head complexion you should take extra care in the sun, covering up with a hat and T-shirt during the hottest times of day between 11am and 3pm and wearing a high SPF sunscreen.
If you have more than 50 moles or have freckles you need to be vigilant about your monthly skin checks.

Be alert to any changes in your skin, if you have moles do they appear the same each side, do they match? Are the borders irregular and have they more than one colour?
Are there any that are bigger than the end of a pencil, about 6mm or have you any new arrivals you haven't noticed before?
If you have any of the above or if you have a mole that itches, bleeds or is crusty, make an appointment to see your doctor now.
